Southern California Reproductive Center Provides Support to Fight the Stigma of Infertility.

Beverly Hills, CA. (April 26, 2024) According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 6 people worldwide struggle with infertility after one year of trying to conceive naturally.

During National Infertility Awareness Week, which starts on April 21, doctors at Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC) are working to educate the public about reproductive health and issues that make building a family difficult for so many. Dr. Carolyn Alexander, a physician at SCRC and an internationally recognized fertility specialist, said the goal is also to help eliminate the stigma surrounding infertility and make the topic more openly discussed.

“Infertility struggles can be a very emotionally draining thing for women to go through, so our goal is always to meet our patients with compassion, understanding and kindness,” said Dr. Alexander. “Women who have been trying to conceive for over a year often come to us feeling defeated and frustrated. In many cases, they are almost ready to give up on their dream of having a baby. You can see the sense of relief and optimism on their faces as they realize their dream can become a reality with our help.”

Jennifer Chung is a Patient Care Coordinator at SCRC and experienced infertility after being diagnosed with diminishing ovarian reserve. She went to SCRC to go through the process of IVF and to help her get pregnant with her twin boys, who are now age 7.

“I wanted to be a mom more than anything in the world,” said Chung. “Going through infertility is a stressful, emotional journey and more women suffer from it than people are aware of. When people come into SCRC, I relate to our patients and know exactly what they are going through. I always advise people to find your support network and lean in on them. Having people you can talk to about this process is so important. Our patients hear my story and it gives them hope.”

Dr. Alexander said there are many reasons a woman may struggle with infertility and part of her team’s goal is to get to the root cause. As an expert at egg freezing and the treatment of infertility, Dr. Alexander has conducted extensive research on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and is an expert in recurrent pregnancy loss. She said the experience and industry knowledge the staff has at SCRC is what truly sets them apart for couples struggling to get pregnant.

“At the core root of SCRC is our patients’ trust in us,” said Dr. Alexander. “Our fertility doctors and endocrinologists have extensive experience in helping couples with many different types of infertility, including tubal infertility (blocked fallopian tubes), PCOS, and male infertility. The combination of our technology, science and ART lab helps us narrow in on the exact cause of their infertility and find a solution that will work for their specific case. Each story is unique, but the result is that we’ve helped thousands of families reach their dream of parenthood. I always tell my patients who have struggled that there is a golden egg, it might take time to find it or for it to be ready, but there always is that one magical egg that turns into a successful pregnancy. I encourage them to inhale courage and exhale fear.”

SCRC also offers fertility services to newly diagnosed cancer patients and survivors, those who belong to the LGBTQIA+ community and international patients.
