Meet the Team

Our physician fertility specialists are pioneers in the field, with over 25 years of experience dating back to the emergence of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and its associated technologies as a medical practice.

  • Dr. Mark W. Surrey, co-founder and fertility specialist at Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC)

    Co-founder of SCRC and former president of both the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, Dr. Surrey brings over 35 years of experience in IVF and minimally invasive reproductive surgery. He has been named one of the Top 100 Health Professionals and listed in Best Doctors in America.

  • Dr. Hal C. Danzer, co-founder and fertility specialist at Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC)

    Co-founder of SCRC and a nationally recognized reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Danzer has spent his career developing strategies to increase IVF success rates, reduce miscarriage risk, and prevent genetic disorders. Parent Magazine named him one of the Top 10 Fertility Specialists in the country.

  • Dr. Carolyn Alexander, SCRC Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist

    Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dr. Alexander trained at UCLA and completed her residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is an expert in fertility preservation and has extensive research experience in PCOS and recurrent pregnancy loss. She is also a consultant for ABC's Grey's Anatomy and serves as a medical expert for Project Baby.

  • Dr. Susan M. Maxwell, Reproductive Endocrinologist and fertility specialist at SCRC

    Double board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Dr. Maxwell is the primary fertility specialist at SCRC's Santa Barbara location. She completed her training at NYU Langone Medical Center, where she received the Robert Porges Award for outstanding chief resident and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society In-Training Award for her research. Her own personal experience with infertility informs the compassionate, individualized approach she brings to every patient.

  • Dr. Diana E. Chavkin, double board-certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist at SCRC

    A double board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Chavkin brings both clinical excellence and a personal understanding of infertility to her practice. She specializes in advanced IVF protocols, egg and embryo freezing, reciprocal IVF, and comprehensive LGBTQIA+ family building. Honored with Top Doctors Los Angeles and Southern California Super Doctors distinctions.
