LAUREN SUNDHEIMER, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Lauren Sundheimer is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who recently joined our team at SCRC. After leading clinical research studies for several large pharmaceutical companies, Dr. Sundheimer realized her desire to provide direct patient care to those faced with fertility challenges. She is passionate about her ability to apply science to help her patients achieve their dream of building a family.

While attending medical school at University of California, Irvine, Dr. Sundheimer developed her passion for women’s health. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UCLA Medical Center and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the combined UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She holds a BS in biochemistry and a BA in political science from University of California, San Diego, where she also completed a highly competitive joint bachelor’s and master’s degree program in biology.

Dr. Sundheimer has performed considerable research in the area of reproductive health. Initially interested in how the body regulates its various functions, she conducted studies using research models in a laboratory setting. As she became increasingly interested in the field of infertility, her focus shifted to patient care. Her more recent research has involved evaluating preimplantation genetic screening technology and studying the outcome differences among pregnancies requiring fertility treatment.

Spanning the entire spectrum of fertility care, Dr. Sundheimer’s clinical interests range from the diagnosis and management of infertility, to family planning and building, fertility preservation, LGBTQ care, and single-parent family-building. Additionally, she treats women with reproductive endocrine issues regardless of their fertility desires, such as PCOS and other abnormal hormone-regulation issues.

Dr. Sundheimer feels it is important to evaluate her patients from a holistic perspective, treating fertility and reproductive endocrine issues while balancing other medical issues and stressors to provide a comprehensive approach to fertility, fertility preservation, and reproductive endocrinology.

In her spare time, Dr. Sundheimer enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family while soaking up the beautiful Southern California weather.
